The New Jewel Movement (NJM) was the Marxist-Leninist vanguard party of the People's Revolutionary Government (Grenada). It was led by Comrade Maurice Bishop. The party gained power in a bloodless coup on March 13, 1979. Bishop was assassinated in October 1983, leading to turmoil on the island, resulting in the United States intervening; the party was disbanded soon after.
