James Madison (March 16, 1751 – June 28, 1836) was a Statesian slave owner and founding father who ruled as the USA's fourth president from 1809 to 1817. Before becoming president, he claimed to be anti-war and wanted to limit the power of the presidency, but he began a war of aggression once in office, invading Canada ten times between 1812 and 1814. He was the first president to ask Congress to declare war.[1]
