The Caucasus can be divided into the North and South Caucasus, although the Western Caucasus can be considered a part of the Northern Caucasus. The Greater Caucasus mountain range that's located in the North is mostly shared by the [[Russian Federation]] and [[Georgia (country)]] as well as the northernmost parts of [[Republic of Azerbaijan]]. While the lesser Caucasus mountain range in the south is occupied by the [[Republic of Armenia]], [[Republic of Azerbaijan]], and [[Georgia (country)]] although some parts of the mountain range extends into northeastern [[Republic of Türkiye|Turkey]], northern [[Islamic Republic of Iran]] and the [[Republic of Artsakh]].
 
The region is known for it's huge linguistic diversity and those include the Indo-European and Turkic language families as well as the Kartvelian, Northwest Caucasian and  Northeast Caucasian language families.
