The Donetsk People's Republic (Russian: Донецкая Наро́дная Респу́блика; DPR or ДНР/DNR) was a separatist state with limited recognition, located in the Donbass region.[1] Despite its suggestive name, it was not a socialist state.

Due to the Euromaidan, a colour revolution that led to the rise of fascism in Ukraine, Russian and other ethnic minorities have been persecuted, resulting in the separation of Crimea, and its subsequent unification with Russia, as well as the founding of the Luhansk People's Republic and the Donetsk People's Republic in the Donbass region in early 2014.

Foreign relations

On 21 February 2022, Russia signed a decree recognizing the independence of both the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic.[2]

In June 2022, the DPR signed a bilateral trade agreement with the Iran at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum.[3]

In July 2022, the DPRK recognized the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk.[4]
