Madagascar, officially the Republic of Madagascar, is an island country off the coast of East Africa.

History

The Democratic Movement for Malagasy Rejuvenation (MDRM) rebelled against the French colonizers in 1947. They began a ten-year guerrilla war for independence in which French killed tens of thousands of Malagasy.[1]

Madagascar had a Marxist–Leninist socialist government from 1975 to 1992, under the leadership of Didier Ratsiraka and the Malagasy Revolutionary Party.
