This quick read will bring you up to speed on what permissions you receive now that you have the Trusted role, and what this means for you overall.
What does being Trusted mean?
Being trusted ultimately means that you've done quantitative and/or qualitative edits on the wiki over time (usually a period of a month or two, possibly earlier if you've done really good work).
We decided to set up the trusted role early on in ProleWiki's life, originally to fight against spam waves. Over time, the Trusted role became useful to manage ProleWiki effectively as it grew: it helps the administration find out at a glance who is a long-term editor on the project.
There are no quotas to fill on ProleWiki, and you will never lose your Trusted role once you receive it. Think of receiving the Trusted role as "graduating" from a new editor to autonomous.
What is not the Trusted role?
Becoming a trusted editor is something all new editors will receive if they stay with ProleWiki and edit productively. It doesn't make one better than other editors, nor is it an award for good conduct or obedience. It's really just a way of identifying who is editing a lot and has been with us for a long time.
In fact, some of our off-site permissions (proposing policy, joining work groups...) are not necessarily strictly limited to trusted editors: new editors, if they show interest, can absolutely make propositions too.
It does give some new permissions which we'll go into in the next sections.
Permissions on the wiki
The biggest change is that you can now create pages as well as upload files on the wiki. Please refer to the user guide on how to do that.
Other permissions granted
Moreover, as a Trusted editor, you get to involve yourself more in the ProleWiki project.
First, you will get access to the editor channels on the Discord, which will allow you to talk directly between trusted editors.
Secondly, you will be able to suggest how to use our Donation excess and vote on proposals. This is done on the Discord most of the time.
Joining and creating work groups
Finally, you will be able to join and create work groups. Work groups are a project we've been trying out since early 2023 with great success. If you're interested in doing something for ProleWiki other than editing (or outside the website itself), then it's possible for you to propose your project to the administration who will then help you set it up. You will then be able to manage this project somewhat autonomously and with other editors.
One such group for example is the book club that meets on our Discord server. It was created by one of our editors and managed autonomously by him (meeting times, setting up book polls, etc.)
Another group is the agitprop group, maintained by the administration, responsible for work on social media (creating videos, posting tweets, replying to comments, etc.)
Any idea can be submitted for consideration to the admins, whose responsibility is to 1. evaluate the possibility and goals of this group (considering our resources) and 2. help you set up and manage this group as much as they can.
Voting on new editor applications
We have, on the Discord, a thread in the editor channel where we post new account applications made on the wiki. There, all trusted editors are free to vote either yes or no on the application. The administration abides by the result of the vote (barring special cases).
