Tajikistan, officially the Republic of Tajikistan, is a country in Central Asia. In 1991, it seceded from the Soviet Union despite over 96% of the population voting to remain in the USSR.[1] From 1992 to 1997, Tajikistan was in a civil war.[2] In 2013, only 27% of Tajiks said that the country benefited from leaving the Soviet Union.[3]
