Aššuruballiṭ II (c. 645 BCE – c. 609 BCE) was the last ruler of Assyria. After his predecessor Sînšariškun died in the Median-Babylonian conquest of Ninua (Nineveh) in 612 BCE, he led the surviving Assyrian forces to Harran. In 610 BCE, the Medes drove his forces out of Harran, but he recaptured it in 609 BCE with Egyptian support and killed every Babylonian soldier defending the city. Soon after, however, Nabûaplauṣur's Babylonian army arrived and destroyed the Assyrian forces.[1]
