Albert Woodfox was a member of the Black Panther Party. He was imprisoned at the Louisiana State Penitentiary from 1971 to 2016.
Imprisonment[edit | edit source]
He was sentenced to prison 50 years in prison in 1971 along with Herman Wallace and Robert Hillary King. He was held in solitary confinement for 44 years, the longest of anyone in U.S. history. While in prison, he taught other inmates how to read.[1]
