Aristagoras (died 494 BCE) was the leader of a Greek uprising against the Achaemenids. The rebellion began in 500 BCE in Miletos. In 499, he asked the European Greeks for support. Sparta refused, but Athens and Eretria sent small fleets. The Persians defeated the Greeks at Ephesos in 498 and captured Miletos in 494.[1]
