Artashes I Artashesian (died 160 BCE), also known by the Greek name Artaxias, was the founder of the Artashesian dynasty of Armenia. He restored Armenia's independence after the Roman defeat of the Seleucids. He built the new capital of Artashat not far from the previous capital of Armavir and encouraged the cultural and economic development of his kingdom.[1]
