Bernardo Leighton Guzmán (16 August 1909 – 26 January 1995) was a Chilean politician and founder of the Christian Democratic Party. After the 1973 Pinochet coup, he proposed an alliance of the Christian Democrats and leftist Popular Unity to restore democracy. He survived a 1975 assassination attempt by Pinochet's secret police.[1]
