Cape Verde, or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country off the coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. Cape Verde is a member of the African Union, and ECOWAS.
History[edit | edit source]
Kidnapping of Alex Saab[edit | edit source]
On June 12, 2020, the Capo Verdean government illegally arrested Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab on the request of the United States. Capo Verdean and ECOWAS courts issued an order for Saab to be given medical treatment for cancer but the Cabo Verdean government purposely delayed this treatment.[1] Alex Saab was then extradited to the US, ignoring various legal decisions from African courts in order for Prime Minister Ulisses Correia's government to increase cooperation with the US.[2]
