The Communist Party of Belgium (KPB-PCB) was a communist political party in Belgium from 1921 to 1989. The party split along linguistic lines into the Kommunistische Partij in Flanders and Parti Communiste in Wallonia.
History[edit | edit source]
The Communist Party of Belgium was formed at a congress on 3–4 September 1921. KPB/PCB was formed through the unification of two small communist groups led by War Van Overstraeten and Joseph Jacquemotte respectively. This action was recommendated by the Comintern and immediately after its formation, the KPB/PCB joined the Comintern.[1]
On 18 August 1950 the party chairman, Julien Lahaut, was assassinated by far-right forces.[1]
