Dātiya was a Persian admiral during the reign of Dārayavahuš I.[1]
Greco-Persian Wars[edit | edit source]
In mid-490 BCE, Dātiya gathered the Persian fleet in Cilicia (southern Anatolia). During the invasion of Greece, he led a force of 15,000 that landed on the Marathon plain. He diverted the Persian cavalry toward Athens since they could not operate on the narrow plain. On 12 August 490 BCE, Athenian forces led by Miltiades defeated the remaining Persian infantry.[1]
