Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev (8 February [O.S. 27 January] 1834 – 2 February [O.S. 20 January] 1907) was a Russian chemist known for creating the first systematic periodic table in 1869. He organized the 63 known elements by atomic weight and properties, leaving gaps to predict the undiscovered elements gallium, scandium, and germanium. His work established the Periodic Law and provided the foundational framework for the modern periodic table. The synthetic element Mendelevium is named in his honor.
