The Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP), formerly known as the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), is an Islamic extremist organization founded in China. It organized its first attack in Baren Township in Xinjiang on 1990 April 5. The West tends to lie about China's campaigns to combat TIP, wrongly calling it a genocide.[1]
Terrorist status[edit | edit source]
The United States informally recognized the TIP as a terrorist organization on 2001 September 3 and formally designated it as a terrorist group in 2004. China recognized it as a terrorist group in 2003.[2]
In 2002, the United Nations designated the TIP as a terrorist organization. While the United States of America first labeled the TIP as a terrorist movement in 2004, in 2020, they removed its terrorist status, largely because it was a convenient asset against the PRC.[2][3][4]
ETIM is recognized as a terrorist organization by the government of Turkey.[5]
Syrian Civil War[edit | edit source]
Since 2012, the ETIM/TIP has been participating in the Syrian Civil War. In 2015, it settled in Idlib Province in Syria, near the border with Turkey.[2]
