Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej (8 November 1901 – 19 March 1965) was a Romanian communist politician who served as general secretary of the Romanian Communist Party from 1944 to 1954 and from 1955 to 1965. Gheorghiu-Dej also served in several ministerial roles in the Socialist Republic of Romania, including as Prime Minister from 1952 to 1955
