Stephen Grover Cleveland (March 18, 1837 – June 24, 1908) was a Statesian politician who served as the 22nd and 24th president of the United States, from 1885 to 1889 and from 1893 to 1897. He was the first U.S. president to serve two nonconsecutive terms and the first Democrat elected president after the Statesian Civil War. He previously served as governor of New York from 1883 to 1885.
According to Maria Halpin, in December 1838 Cleveland raped her, after which she became pregnant and was forced to ask her rapist for help. Cleveland coerced and bribed Halpin to give up the child but when she regretted her decision and went back to retrieve the child Cleveland abused his power to put her in a lunatic asylum. Halpin was released three days later after being declared sane and was forced to spend the following years rehabilitating her reputation whilst Cleveland receieved little to no repercussions for his actions.[1]
