Isabel Crook (1915 December 15 – 2023 August 20) was a communist in China.

Early life

Crook was born in Chengdu in 1915 to Canadian missionaries. She studied in Canada and then moved to the UK, where she married former International Brigade member David Crook.[1]

Communist activism

Crook joined the CPGB in 1943. In 1948, she traveled to liberated areas of China, where she lived for the rest of her life.[1] She taught at the Central Foreign Affairs School in Hebei for more than 70 years and trained many scholars and diplomats.[2]

Awards

In 2007, the Beijing Foreign Studies University awarded Crook the title of "Tenured professor emeritus." In September 2019, she earned the Friendship Medal, China's highest honor for foreigners.[2]
