History[edit | edit source]
21st Century[edit | edit source]
On September 27, 2019 Kiribati restored diplomatic relations with China, and broke ties with the US puppet government of Republic of China, in accordance with the One China Policy. In January 2020, Kiribati signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China for cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative. Kiribati began cooperation with China in areas such as climate change, fishery and tourism following this meeting, hailing China's efforts in responding to global warming.[1]
