Robert Francis Prevost (born 14 September 1955) is the current head of the Catholic Church as Pope Leo XIV, having acceded in 2025.

Augustinian[edit | edit source]
Prevost joined the Augustinian Order, a Catholic religious order, in 1977, and later became a priest in 1981.[1]
In the year 2000, Prevost allowed one Fr. James Ray, a priest who had been suspended from ministry since 1991 for sexually abusing minors, to stay at St. John Stone Friary which was just one block away from an elementary school.[2]
In 2015, Prevost became the Bishop of Chiclayo in Peru.[1] In 2022, three Peruvian girls accused Prevost of not bringing Eleuterio Vasquez Gonzalez and Ricardo Yesquen Paiva, two priests who sexually molested them, to justice.[3]

Cardinal Prevost was elected pope in May 2025 under the name Leo XIV.[4]
