Linda Marie McMahon (born 4 October 1948 in New Bern, North Carolina), née Edwards, is a Statesian businesswoman and Republican Party politician currently serving as the U.S. Secretary of Education. She co-founded WWE (then Titan Sports) with her now-estranged husband Vince McMahon in 1980, serving as its CEO from 1997 to 2009 before resigning in order to pursue a career in politics. She sat on the Connecticut State Board of Education for a year before twice running unsuccessfully for the Senate. During the first Trump administration, McMahon served as the head of the Small Business Association. Now as Secretary of Education, a role she is completely unqualified for, she seeks to dismantle her own department, viewing the ideological indoctrination of children as a matter for the states to decide.[1]
WWE[edit | edit source]
McMahon was previously the CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment and has faced multiple lawsuits for sexual assault of wrestlers by announcers.[1]
Political career[edit | edit source]
McMahon ran for Senate in Connecticut but lost twice.[1]
In 2019, McMahon left Trump's first administration to lead the America First Action super PAC. She was also leader of the America First Policy Institute think tank, which promotes defunding public schools and give public funds to private schools.[1]
