Melvin King (October 20, 1928 – March 28, 2023) was a Statesian Black liberation activist and politician. During the 1960s, he helped develop the Community Assembly for a United South End and organized the occupation and construction of a tent city in a parking lot that displaced proletarian households. He became the first Black mayoral candidate in Boston in 1983. He retired in 1997 and founded the South End Tech Center to improve community access to science and technology.[1]
