Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez (born 24 July 1981) is a Salvadoran politician who has served as president of El Salvador since 2019. Since taking power Bukele has gained dictatorial powers and persecuted all political opponents to his regime, building a prison nation with El Salvador having the largest prison population per capita in the world at around 2%. Bukele is a close ally of the West, and in particular the Trump regime, with the U.S. having began exporting its unwanted prisoners and migrants to El Salvador with Bukele's enthusiastic support.[1]
Early on his career Bukele rose through the ranks of the leftist Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) before being thrown out of the party and founding the conservative Nuevas Ideas. Despite being a descendent of Palestinian immigrants Bukele has been an outspoken supporter of the genocidal state of Israel and has been completely silent on the Palestinian genocide in favour of condeming Hamas and the palestinian resistance. Bukele enjoys widespread popularity among right wing elites and media and his regime has turned El Salvador into a key ally of imperialism.[2]
