NewsClick is a progressive media outlet based in India. It has millions of viewers every day.[1]
Censorship[edit | edit source]
In February 2021, police raided NewsClick's headquarters in New Delhi and the homes of its staff.[1]
In 2023, police raided the homes of over 100 journalists connected to NewsClick and arrested editor-in-chief Prabir Purkayastha and administrator Amrit Chakraborty. In response, over 300 activists from over 30 countries signed a letter condemning the repression. Signatories included members of the SACP, Sinn Féin, the ANSWER Coalition, CODEPINK and journalists from Jacobin, The Nation, The Empire Files, Pan African Television, Morning Star, and BreakThrough News.[2]
