The old democratic revolution, was a bourgeois-democratic revolution which that took place in China between 1840 and 1919[1]. The beginning was marked by the first opium war, and the end was marked by the May 4th movement. The revolution consisted of struggle against both feudal oppression and foreign aggression.[1]
Together the old democratic revolution and the new democratic revolution can be collectively referred to as the "Chinese revolution".[2]

Led by Hong Xiuquan, this revolution was the largest peasant uprising in modern Chinese history.
Xinhai revolution[edit | edit source]
Also known as the 1911 revolution, the Xinhai revolution ended China's imperial dynastic system of government and established of the Republic of China.
