Paul-Émile Botta (6 December 1802 – 29 March 1870) was an Italian-French diplomat and archeologist. In 1843, he uncovered the ruins of the Assyrian city of Dūr-Šarru-kīn, which had been the capital under Šarrukīn II.[1]
