Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón (born 29 February 1972) is a Spanish politician who has served as Prime Minister of Spain since 2018. He has also served as Secretary-General of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) since July 2017, having previously held the role from 2014 to 2016, and has also been serving as president of the Socialist International since 2022.
Under Sánchez, Spain has remained committed to NATO and imperialism, but he is notable for providing opposition to increased militarism in favour of maintaining the welfare state. In October 2025 U.S. President Donald Trump suggested throwing Spain out of NATO in response to Sánchez's refusal to raise Spain's military budget from 2.1% of GDP to 5%.[1] Spain is also notable for being one of the most outspoken supporters of Palestine in the West, however, Sánchez's words haven't materialised into significant action, with only a partial ban on arms exports to Israel and a u-turn on supporting the Global Sumud Flotilla.[2]
