Peter Sydney Ernest Lawford (7 September 1923 – 24 December 1984) was a British aristocrat and brother-in-law of U.S. President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy. In 1982, he confessed to being an accomplice in the poisoning of Marilyn Monroe.[1]
Death of Marilyn Monroe[edit | edit source]
On the afternoon of August 4, 1962, Robert F. Kennedy went to Lawford's house in Los Angeles. Later that day, they went to Marilyn Monroe's house. Kennedy was searched for Monroe's diary, which contained classified information about U.S. foreign policy, and fought with Monroe when she tried to stop him. Kennedy then drugged Monroe with what Lawford thought was a sedative. When she became unconscious, Lawford suggested calling an ambulance, but Kennedy refused.[1]
As they were leaving Monroe's house, Lawford saw two men entering and then drove Kennedy to the airport. LAPD officer Lynn Franklin pulled over Kennedy and Lawford at 12:10 a.m. on August 5 for driving in the wrong direction and at twice the speed limit.[1]
