The president of France, officially the president of the French Republic (French: Président de la République française#) or president of the Republic (Président de la République), is the executive head of state of France, and the commander-in-chief of the French Armed Forces. The presidency is the highest office in France and wields significant authority over fields such as national security and foreign affairs. The president's greatest power is the ability to choose the Prime Minister of France who oversees much of the nation's actual day-to-day domestic affairs.
