Richard Alan Dwyer (1932/33 – August 29, 1991) was a CIA agent who worked for the U.S. Foreign Service in Egypt and Syria and prepared the U.S. invasion of Grenada. In Thailand, he worked with U.S. Ambassador to Guyana John Burke.
Jonestown massacre[edit | edit source]
Dwyer accompanied Leo Ryan on his visit to Jonestown in the Guyanese jungle and was the only person in the area who had a functioning radio. At 9:18 p.m. on 18 November 1978, he announced Ryan's death at the Port Kaituma airstrip to the CIA. The State Department did not find out until the next morning.[1]
