The League of Communists of Yugoslavia (SKJ) was the founding and ruling party of socialist Yugoslavia.
History[edit | edit source]
War[edit | edit source]
The SKJ had 12,000 members at the start of the Nazi invasion, but 8,000 died during the war. The party gained 140,000 members during the war and 360,000 more by 1948. The membership included some kulaks and petty bourgeois.[1]
Tito–Stalin split[edit | edit source]
After Tito split with Stalin in 1948, he started a purge against pro-Stalin elements of the party, arresting the CC members Andrija Hebrang and Sreten Žujović and killing General Slavko Rodić.[1]
