Šulmānuašarēdu III (c. 892 BCE – 824 BCE), also spelled Shalmaneser, was the king of Assyria from 859 to 824 BCE. An alliance led by the city of Damascus defeated his first attempted invasion of Syria. In 845 BCE, he led an army of 120,000 into Syria but failed again. After Damascus's alliance with the Cilician, Palestinian cities fell apart, he was able to briefly put Syria under Assyrian rule.[1]
