Ian Kochinski, formerly IrishLaddie, best known by his internet moniker Vaush, is a Statesian YouTube and Twitch streamer who primarily discusses politics, philosophy, and gaming. He has described himself as a liberal,[1] a libertarian socialist and an anarchist, but for all intents and purposes is a neoliberal, as he supports right-wing figures like Joe Biden and institutions such as NATO and the EU (he even claimed Marx and Lenin would have voted for Biden),[2] all the while regurgitating imperialist and anti-communist propaganda about people and regimes who threaten Western interests. His channel mainly serves to deradicalise people from both the far-left and the far-right while enriching himself in the process.
Vaush is a serial sexual predator[3] and a pedophile[4] with a very large ego about "getting laid".[5]
Ideological criticism[edit | edit source]
Anti-communism[edit | edit source]
Vaush clams that Marxism is an ‘extension of liberalism’.[6] Vaush whitewashed George Orwell's reporting of leftists, non-white and LGBT+ peoples to the Information Research Department (IRD) within the British government, as acceptable by claiming that Orwell was reporting "Stalinists".[7]
Vaush called the promotion of George Orwell's anti-communist writings by the IRD and CIA as "based".[8] Vaush argued passionately against U.S. workers demanding a $25/hour minimum wage.[9] Vaush unironically endorsed Keynesian economics, stating “I feel neo-Keynesian economists have the answer.”[10] Vaush once posted a meme that said socialism must be "balanced with minority rights".[11]
Vaush told his followers to vote for Joe Biden while saying of ‘tankies’ (a term he used to refer to Marxists): “Mock them, socially ostracise them, kick them out of your communities."[12]
Vaush called the Marxist, Iraqi YouTuber Hakim a ‘pseudo-fascist’ and a ‘cancer on online discourse’ because he said Biden will be worse on foreign policy than Trump.[13] Vaush then had a ‘debate’ with Hakim where he politely agreed with everything Hakim said. Following that debate (mere moments after Hakim had left) Vaush said “a lot of tankies are aesthetically and functionally indistinguishable from neo-Nazis”.[14]
Responding to Hakim’s video[15] on George Orwell, Vaush defends Orwell for being a government informant, calls the USSR fascist, implies Stalinists are worse than Nazis, claims the USSR was allied with the Nazis, says that Hakim (an Iraqi) should have been abducted by the Americans at the start of the Iraq war and forcibly indoctrinated in US propaganda for 20 years,[16] and more.[17]
Support for U.S. imperialism[edit | edit source]
On 11 December 2020, Vaush jokingly stated that Iraqis have him to thank for supposedly stopping and preventing U.S. imperialism in Iraq by encouraging people to vote for Joe Biden.[18]
On 3 February 2023 Vaush advocated expanding U.S. imperialism in a tweet. Responding to a tweet criticising the number of U.S. Military bases in the Asia-Pacific, Vaush stated that "We [the U.S.] need more".[19]
On the 23 February, 2023 Vaush advocated for the removal of Hakim, an Iraqi Marxist-Leninist YouTuber from their homeland in order to receive English education in the U.S.[20]
Settler apologia[edit | edit source]
In a debate with the Youtuber Professor Flowers on black nationalism and decolonisation, Vaush compared White South African settlers who gained their "homes" via apartheid to Jewish people who faced persecution by the Nazi Party.[21]
Fascism[edit | edit source]
There is some evidence that Vaush is more than a terrible human being, he may also be a crypto-fascist. Vaush has engaged in forms of Holocaust denial, using common nazi dogwhistles and believes the numbers are inflated as propaganda.[22] Vaush also tweeted a literal Nazi meme – glorifying the Nazi-allied Finland for fighting against the USSR in WWII.[23]

In a debate with NonCompete, Vaush claimed that Jews disproportionately controlled banks in Weimar Germany.[24]
Racism[edit | edit source]
Vaush has called Black people "subhuman"[25] and intentionally said the N-word in a debate.[26] He is against preserving Black culture even though it was systematically repressed by the United States.[27]
Transphobia[edit | edit source]
Vaush has ranted that the LGBT+ community (and trans people and trans girls in particular) is characterized by "fragility" and "performatively fragile"[28], and are: "cancerous";[29] "mentally ill";[30] "less than human, I have no respect for these people"; "disgusting" and should be "excised from the left"; "I despise them"; he thinks they're "every bit as detrimental to the left as Nazis are"; "I want these people to know that they're my enemy"; "hate them"; "they're subhuman, I don't care".[29] He "clarified" and defended his words after the livestream clip got backlash.[28] Then he ranted again, calling them "mentally ill" and "subhuman".[31] When people criticized Contrapoints he called them “worthless, mentally ill, basement dweller fucking queer people with absolutely nothing to offer the world” and “degenerates sucking off the back of society like a leech”.[32] He (a cis man) called the non-binary lefty Youtuber ThoughtSlime ‘fragile’ and ‘dumb’ for his opinion on gender abolition.[33] He also claimed, “Trans people do not have a better understanding of trans-ness…"[34] Vaush ranted hate towards trans people for taking offense when misgendered.[35] Vaush defended saying “fuck trans people” by claiming he has a ‘6-figure’ income from all the online attention that he was getting.[36]

Despite self-identifying as bipolar, Vaush said that a “large portion of the left is predicated on shared mental illness.”[28] In response to a Tweet saying the left ‘should stand up for the weak and vulnerable’ Vaush replied “Yeah, enjoy your Left, built on weakness and a collective inability to criticise one another. I’ll be over here building my left, which isn’t full of mentally ill crybabies desperately carving out safe spaces and whining about criticism.”[37]
Paedophilia[edit | edit source]
Vaush appears to have a pre-occupation with paedophilia.[38][39] Vaush has repeatedly defended child pornography[40][41][42][43][44][45], claimed to have a Twitter account that shares drawn child pornography,[46] and believes that the age of consent should be lowered under socialism.[47] Vaush has defended the consumption of child pornography because ‘there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism’.[48] An ‘old close friend’ of Vaush has alleged that Vaush once admitted to viewing images of child pornography.[49]
For years, Vaush and his supporters fervently denied any allegations that he was a paedophile, but the allegations were proven true beyond any reasonable doubt when he accidentally showed his drawn child porn collection live on stream in February 2024.[4]
Sexual Harassment[edit | edit source]
Vaush is a self-confessed sexual harasser.[50] Despite this ‘apology’ he went on to ‘joke’ about scaring his victim into shutting up.[51] He said he had ‘done nothing to feel remorseful for’[50][51] and ‘nothing to apologise over’[50][51][52]. In fact, his own sysadmin suggested he change his handle[53] to hide from sexual harassment allegations.
FBI Informant[edit | edit source]
Vaush admits to being an informant when he lived in Santa Monica, California. He admits to revealing antifascist activist identities to the FBI, saying, "You could say that about literally anything, there any informants everywhere, I'm an informant, why do you think I did antifa work back in Santa Monica? Yeah, I was ratting out names, absolutely. We've all been informants. CIA asset Vaush group."[54]
