Friedrich Wilhelm Reinhold Pieck ( 3 January 1876 – 7 September 1960) was a German communist politician who served as president of the German Democratic Republic from 1949 until his death in 1960. He also served as Chairman of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) from 1934 until the KPD was united with the Social Democratic Party (SPD) into the Socialist Unity Party (SED) in 1946, where he continued in his post until 1950.
