Rebellions[edit | edit source]
Xšayāršā I took power in October 486 BCE after the death of his father Dārayavahuš I. In January 484 BCE, he put down an Egyptian rebellion and pillaged Egypt's temples. In the summer of 484 BCE, he put down a Babylonian rebellion. Babylon rebelled again in 482 BCE, and the Persians captured the city in March 481 BCE after a long siege. The Persians destroyed the city walls and downgraded Persia to an ordinary satrapy.[1]
