'''Red tourism''' is a tourism trend in which people visit locations with historical significance to communism. The Chinese government started promoting red tourism with the “General Plan for the Development of Red Tourism in 2004-2010”. This plan established the first batch of 100 red tourism classic scenic spots.

The trend has become very popular in China, with 88 percent of tourists in 2022 reporting to have visited at least one red tourist site.<ref name=":0" />
