Users can submit text or image posts to be voted on in each community, and users can also comment and vote on comments. Fears of censorship of certain communities have led to users looking for alternatives. For example, censorship of the [[GenZedong|/r/GenZedong]] subreddit has led them to join [[Lemmygrad]], a pro-[[Communism|communist]] instance of the [[Free and open-source software|FOSS]] alternative to Reddit, [[Lemmy]].

Reddit has deleted hundreds of thousands of accounts linked to the [[Russian Federation|Russian]], [[Islamic Republic of Iran|Iranian]], and [[People's Republic of China|Chinese]] governments at the request of Western intelligence organizations. Reddit's director or policy, Jessica Ashooh, worked for the [[Atlantic Council]], [[North Atlantic Treaty Organization|NATO]]'s think tank. She supported [[United States imperialism|U.S. imperialism]] in [[Syrian Arab Republic|Syria]] and praised the absolute monarchy of [[Kingdom of Saudi Arabia|Saudi Arabia]].<ref name=":0" />

From 2005 to 2015, Reddit received information requests from government agencies in 15 U.S. states.
