Under [[Víctor Paz Estenssoro]], the MNR nationalist revolution in 1952 that expanded voting rights to women and illiterate people, nationalized the tin industry, redistributed land, and weakened the military. The party began to shift to the right in the late 1950s, when Paz sought support from the church and military instead of the working people.
