The Winnipeg General Strike began on 15 May 1919 and lasted until 21 June 1919 when it was broken up on "Bloody Saturday" by the Royal North-West Mounted Police (the precursor to the modern RCMP) to prevent the strike from spreading to further cities across Canada.[1][2] It was the largest labour action in Canadian history.[1]
