The New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social democratic political party in Canada. Formed in 1961 from the democratic socialist and social democratic Co-operative Commonwealth Federation and with the partnership Canadian Labour Congress, the party has long occupied the left wing of mainstream Canadian politics, despite being in favour of keeping the capitalist mode of production. Recently the NDP has been shifting further to the right, advocating for continued material support to the Ukrainian state instead of peace[1] and promoting sinophobic rhetoric regarding suspected Chinese interference in Canadian affairs.[2]
Provincial and Territorial Parties[edit | edit source]
The party is divided into federal and provincial parties, which are legally distinct organizations from eachother, but still are integrated through each of their constitutions. Holding membership in a provincial party will automatically give you membership in the federal one.
