The South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO), officially known as the SWAPO Party of Namibia, is the dominant party and former independence movement of Republic of Namibia. Founded in 1960 as a Marxist-Leninist revolutionary vanguard, the party had abandoned socialism and governed according to Social Democratic principles since independence. Since 2017, SWAPO's official party ideology is Socialism with Namibian Characteristics.
