According to Sekou Toure, prior to the JRDA's formation in 1958, youth associations in Guinea were based on racial lines, thus fueling contradiction among the Malinke, Soussou, Kissi, ect. The unification of these youth movements was done as a means of entrenching mass cooperation amongst youth and the entrenchment of a common African identity.
