Edward Liger Smith is a Statesian "patriotic socialist" and an "Institute co-director" of Midwestern Marx.[1] He made the absurd claim that the Bolsheviks were "reaching out" to members of the Black Hundreds,[2] a far-right monarchist group in the Russian Empire.
Tailist support for Donald Trump
On December 20th, 2023, Smith wrote a tweet espousing the idea that Donald Trump was being unjustly affected by "...lawfare being used to manipulate elections."[3]
This tweet came in response to the decision by the Colorado Supreme Court on December 19th, 2023 that Donald Trump could not
...appear on the Colorado Republican presidential primary ballot in 2024... [because] [a] majority of the court holds that President Trump is disqualified from holding the office of President under Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.[4]
This decision from the court was made because of Trump's actions in aiding and abetting the 2021 United States Capitol insurrection.
American Communist Party
Edward was a founding member of the American Communist Party, a patriotic socialist project. There, he calls himself an "Executive board member".[5]
