State Anthem of the Soviet Union

The State Anthem of the Soviet Union^[a] was the anthem of the Soviet Union from 1944 to 1991. Before 1944, the Russian version of the Internationale was used as the anthem of the USSR. The melody is based on that of an earlier song "Hymn of the Bolshevik Party".^[1]

In 2000, a version with new lyrics was adopted as the anthem of the Russian Federation.
