The South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO), officially known as the SWAPO Party of Namibia, is the dominant party and former independence movement of Namibia. Founded in 1960 as a Marxist-Leninist revolutionary vanguard, the party had abandoned socialism and governed according to Social Democratic principles since independence. Since 2017, SWAPO's official party ideology is Socialism with Namibian Characteristics
