In a major step for ProleWiki, we are for the first time allowing readers to edit the wiki without requiring an account. This was one of the most requested features both from our editorship as well as readership, and is finally made into a reality.
If you're interested in editing ProleWiki, please read below to understand how this all works.
Technical and privacy disclaimers
Firstly, we will be running this feature as an pilot project in a period lasting from a week to a month starting from the moment this essay is published. We will then assess the effectiveness and impact of the feature, and decide whether to keep it live or remove it.
As a non-logged in user, you will only be able to edit Wiki pages. You cannot edit our library, essays, or technical stuff (modules, templates, etc.). Wiki pages are those without a prefix such as Library:, Essays:, etc.
To edit a page, simply look for the red "Edit" and "Edit source" buttons in the top right corner of the page. If they show up, then you may edit the page and make your own contribution. We recommend using the visual editor by clicking on the Edit button.
Your edits will then enter a moderation queue where our editors will review them, and either accept or reject your propositions. This is to avoid wrecking and vandalism.
Please note that your IP address will be made visible to everyone if your edit is approved. To avoid that, we recommend you use a VPN or similar service.
Your contributions will be made under the CC-BY 4.0 licence. Once submitted, you have no more control over how they will be displayed or used.
What kind of edits are allowed and not allowed?
When submitting an edit as a reader, you need to reference and source every claim you send, otherwise it will be rejected. This is in line with our own editorial sourcing policy. The only claims that do not need sources are birth dates and names.
Secondly, you should be able to write your own text and not plagiarize or simply copy and paste from other sources. Plagiarism will also lead to your edit being rejected.
You should be familiar with our Principles and Editorial Guidelines before making a contribution to reduce the chances of it being rejected.
At the moment, you will be unable to upload files or create pages. If you join our Discord server however, we may create a page for you upon request.
Contributions cannot be made into the Library or Essay space at this time.
What is the difference between editing as a reader and making an account?
Making an account allows you to bypass the moderation system, and will allow you to become part of the ProleWiki community and participate in its direction and future.
Editors are able to vote on proposals and become involved beyond simply editing the website.
You can request an account here.
