Andreas Baader was a West German Marxist-Leninist guerilla leader. He participated in the firebombing of two West German department stores with, among others, Gudrun Ensslin, and later was freed by a group of leftist guerillas who would become the Red Army Faction. He became a leading figure within the organization until he was recaptured in 1971. He was murdered in prison on 18 October 1977.[1]
