State Anthem of the Soviet Union

The State Anthem of the Soviet Union^[a] was the anthem of the Soviet Union from 1944 to 1991. Before 1944, the Russian version of the Internationale was used as the anthem of the USSR. In 2000, a version with new lyrics was adopted as the anthem of the Russian Federation. The melody is based on that of an earlier song "Hymn of the Bolshevik Party".^[1]
